WTD 2011 CELEBRATED IN ALBANIA

WTD was celebrated by both education trade unions in Albania, FSASH and SPASH, not only in Tirana, but also in some other districts.

Trade union sections organised special activities with participation of local trade union leaders and teachers where were held speeches on the main topic of this year WTD, "Teachers for gender equality", pointing out the role of teachers and their organisations to make visible progress in promoting women to be school leaders, science, mathematics and technology teachers, university professors, and so on.

A national meeting was organised, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science, in Tirana, where took part trade union leaders and active teachers from both education trade unions in Albania, FSASH and SPASH, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science and from the educational directorates of Tirana.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Mr. Halit Shamata, took also part in the meeting. He greeted the participants on behalf of Albanian Government and Ministry of Education and Science and appreciated the role of FSASH and SPASH in organising activities on the occasion  of WTD, also pointing out the engagement of Albanian Government and Ministry of Education and Science to keep all children and especially girls in school, as well as to support women, who are the majority of Albanian teachers, also promoting them in leading positions of all school levels in Albania.

Following, the chairmen of FSASH, Mr. Xhafer Dobrushi, took the floor, on behalf of both education trade unions, and spoke on the importance of WTD for Albanian teachers, mentioning the engagement of FSASH and SPASH to make known and implement the Recommendations of ILO-UNESCO on Status of Teachers, 1966, as well as to ensure gender equality among teachers,  and to support women teachers to be promoted in leading positions, not only in all levels of trade union structures, but also in schools and other educational institutions.
He also spoke on the EI press release on this year WTD and was focused on  FSASH/SPASH and Albanian Government obligations in this framework.

Participants were also greeted by the Chairman of SPASH, Mr. Bajram Kruja.

Materials prepared on this occasion, including explanations on WTD, EI press release, as well as ILO-UNESCO Recommendation on Status of Teachers and other materials, were distributed to the local trade union leaders, being used as the basic materials for the activities organised on this occasion.
